Eliza’s Review of the TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller
Is using a foam roller for you?
No matter what your age, lifestyle, or level of fitness… a foam roller can play a role in your health and wellness.
There are many reasons for people to be in pain. The pain may be from over exerting or from diseases such as arthritis. You often can feel these aches and pains in your muscles, joints or connective tissue.
Foam rollers have become very popular recently. People use a foam roller to help increase their range of motion or alleviate chronic pain which can happen to anyone at any age.
Foam Rolling can be done in your own home, it’s fun, easy and doesn’t take up much room. The best thing about foam rolling is it is a one time purchase and then the foam roller can be used over and over again. A well made foam roller will last you a lifetime.
Foam rollers can help with:
- Pain and stiffness from a workout
- Pain and stiffness from sitting
- Increased stiffness, aches and pains from arthritis
- Pain from an injury
What is Foam Rolling?
Foam rolling is a self-massaging technique that can increase range of motion and reduce stiffness and pain. Rolling can improve blood flow which aids in healing and is also believed to increase flexibility and integrity in your joints.
Most fitness experts would agree that foam rolling aids in muscle recovery and can even prevent injuries due to weak muscles.
When you use a foam roller you use your body weight and roll different points on your body. You get to choose which muscles you want to work on. It’s an easy way to help keep our muscles healthy, flexible and free of pain and keep you mobile each day.
A 2014 study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning found foam rolling to be an effective treatment in reducing stiffness and improving blood circulation in muscles.

There are many foam rollers on Amazon getting great reviews. The variations of foam rollers on the market seem endless. What I have learned through researching for a roller is that you should look for a good quality roller, but you do not necessarily need to buy the fanciest or most expensive foam roller.
I chose to review The TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller.
I chose it because it is one of the more popular models and there is a company website to contact for questions. It was not only given great reviews on Amazon, but it was highly recommended by trainers. Many physical therapists, massage therapists, athletic trainers and professional athletes recommend it as their ‘tool’ of choice.
I also like the fact that the TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller uses a PVC pipe wrapped in ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam. This design gets good reviews as it makes the product very firm and can withstand heavy use. Although I’m reviewing the Original (13 inch) foam roller there are other sizes available in the TriggerPoint brand.

Here are my Best TIPS for using Your Foam Roller:
Self-massage involves rolling the TriggerPoint GRID foam roller over your muscles until you find a tender spot. Once you have located a sore spot, use your body weight, and maintain pressure on that point for 30 to 60 seconds.
- Start by following this process for about 10 minutes
- Do not roll your joints.
- Foam rolling shouldn’t hurt. It should feel good and help relieve aches and pains.
- Ease into rolling in multiple directions, front to back, side to side and circles.
So I leave you to ‘roll on’ with your TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller!
